Tamás Beke-Somfai received his Ph.D. in structural chemistry at Eötvös University, Budapest. He was a post-doctoral fellow, and later a guest researcher at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden. In Komtesz he is leading the research on EVs and coordinates the supporting R&D activities necessary for the technical development of our isolating device. Besides, he is also active in academics, he is the vice director of the Institute of Materials and Environmental Chemistry at the Research Centre for Natural Sciences (TTK), where he also leads the Biomolecular Self-Assembly research group. His research field involves theoretical and experimental investigation of natural and non-natural biomolecular systems, e.g. extracellular vesicles, peptides and their interactions. He is also specialized in polarized light spectroscopy, and in biophysics of membrane-biomolecule interactions.

I graduated as a mechanical engineer in 1975 and as a research engineer in 1978. I defended my PhD thesis on material and energy transport in 1989, and my doctoral thesis in 2007. In 1992 I was a visiting scientist at McGill University (Montreal, Canada). In 2000, I was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Szent István University, Gödöllő for two terms, followed by two terms as Vice Rector of Szent István University. Currently, I am Professor Emeritus of the Institute of Technology at the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences (MATE), a member of the Board of the MATE Doctoral School of Engineering and Head of the Energy Theme Group. In addition to my teaching activities at the university, I am the chairman of the board of trustees of the Foundation for Higher Education and Research in Engineering and a member of the editorial board of several journals, such as Progress in Agricultural Engineering Sciences, Hungarian Agricultural Engineering, Gép and Mezőgazdasági Technika. I have also served two terms as Chair of the MTA Scientific Committee on Agricultural and Bioengineering, of which I am currently a member, and I participate in the MTA Chemical Engineering Working Committee. Recently, my research has been mainly focused on the development of postharvest technologies for energy and environmental protection.
